Maciej Szwoch a.k.a. “Masken” is currently in his ninth season as Head Goaltending Coach in the SHL club Färjestad BK, the Swedish National Champions 2022. His responsibilities within the team’s coaching staff also include Video coordination, Advanced analytics, “Eye in the Sky”- communicating with the bench during games and he has an integral role in the team’s PK and defensive structure, in close cooperation with the Defense Coach. He is also responsible for scouting and recruiting goaltenders to Pro and Junior Teams in the organization.
Before joining Färjestad Szwoch held a similar position from 2011 to 2015 at the SHL-club MoDo, where he coached Mikael Tellqvist, Anton Forsberg and Linus Ullmark.
“Masken” started his professional coaching career in Växjö (2006-2011), coaching and developing the goaltenders in the Pro and Junior program in the club, while also working as a video coordinator. At the time the team played in Allsvenskan, but during his last year in the club they qualified to be promoted to SHL. He was also a Goaltending Consultant for Frölunda HC Junior Program in Gothenburg 2010-2011 as well as Frisk Asker in Norway working with goalies in the entire organization 2008-2010.
Between 2010 and 2015 Szwoch held several positions working with the Swedish National Team Program, scouting and coaching goalies at the U17, U18 and U20 levels and 2015-2022 he served as European Goaltending Consultant and scout for the Detroit Red Wings.
Maciej Szwoch holds a B.Sc. degree in Coaching and Sports management from the University of Växjö and the highest level of Swedish Goaltending Coach Certification (Level 3). He is noted for his creative coaching with emphasis on creating and building trusting relationships and he has been quoted as saying, “Every goaltender is different and it is my job to understand what their individual Goaltending Recipe is”.
